Your License Key

Your license key was sent to you by email. Whether you just purchased a VolanoChat or VolanoChatPro server or you moved your server to another IP address or port number, the following information will assist you with installing the license key.

Key Installation

The license key sent to you by email contains four plain text lines in the following format:

#VolanoChat version
#Creation Date
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\:port=server,users,expiration,license-string
#End of license file.

For example, your license key might look like the following:

#VolanoChat 2.7 License File. Save as plain text to "conf/key.txt".
#Fri Aug 25 12:09:19 PDT 2006
192.168.1.1\:8000=VolanoChatPro,5,9/4/2006,MCwCFBMFjTSgJdyKCj9lKzjm...
#End of license file.

Create a plain text file called key.txt, and paste the four lines into the file, making sure the entire third line beginning with your IP address does not contain any line breaks or word wrapping. If this line contains any line breaks or word wraps, your VolanoChat server will not start.

Place this file in your conf directory (where vchat2.7.1 is the name of your VolanoChat installation directory):

vchat2.7.1/conf/key.txt

Changing the IP address or Port Number

The license key is tied to the unique IP address and port number you supplied at the time of purchase or when requesting a new license key. This license entitles you to run one copy of the software on one IP address/port number.

If you move the VolanoChat server to a different IP address or change the port number, we will need to issue a new license key. The previous license key will not work, and you will be unable to start the server.

Before we can issue you a new/changed license key, we require that you complete our online contract at the address below. Upon receipt, we'll issue the new license key.

Request to Exchange License Keys

New license keys will not be issued without this form. (Please allow at least 24 hours processing time.)

Your 2.7 license key is valid for any 2.5, 2.6, or 2.7 version of VolanoChat or VolanoChatPro. The current version of the software is always available through our download link at left.
